the wonderful Rainbow Mountain that attracts thousands of tourists to Peru. It is located 138 Km approx. from Cusco in the Vilcanota mountain range in the district of Pitumarca.
Vinicunca o Winikunca
It is known in both ways “Mountain of colors Vinicunca” or “Mountain of 7 colors Winikunca”, the original name comes from two Quechua voices “Wini rumi” Black stone “Kunka” neck; Black stone due to the black stones that abound in the area, and neck by the narrow hill that resembles a neck.
The study by the Office of Cultural Landscape and Muñoz details how each strip is composed according to its color:
- Rosado o fucsia: Combination of red clay, mudstones (mud) and sand.
- Blanquecino: sandstone (quartz sand) and limestone.
- Purple or lavender: marl (a mixture of clay and calcium carbonate) and silicates.
- Red: argillites and clays.
- Green: clays rich in ferro magnesium (a mixture of iron and magnesium) and copper oxide.
- Yellowish brown, mustard or golden brown: limonites, calcareous sandstones rich in sulfide minerals (combined with sulfur).

Tour Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca
At 4:30 to 5:00 a.m., our staff will pick you up at your hotel to board the tourist bus to Cusipata town, the trip will take approximately 2 hours.
After arriving at Cusipata we will go to the restaurant where we will enjoy a delicious breakfast.
Then after a rest and continue our journey towards the Vinicunca mountain range where we will begin our walk of one hour and thirty minutes Approx. to reach the highest peak of the Montaña de Colores 5,000 meters above sea level.
Already in the Mountain of Colors we will have a panoramic view of all the landscape surrounding the Mountain of Colors flora, fauna, Peak, Mountains, Snowy; also we will be able to observe the Imposing Ausangate Snowy.
